Ok, in a non-editing area, it would take special VO commands to do it.

But someone mentioned using the VO commands when in Quick Edit,  and in that 
case, use the generic ones.

RobH, even does it in ordinary text fields for anything.  Good way to clear 
the field and start over.

Interesting, it's never worked for me in Preview to use just shift and arrow 
keys to select text.  I am really curious how it can be that you can do so. 
It's never been the case for all the 7 years I've been using a Mac computer.
