Hi,
Do the Commanders affect writing modes? i've tried searching Applevis
for podcasts on VoiceOver use with the MacBooks but not sure if my search
needs to be more specific.

Hello Anita.
You have the following for writing text:
characters: each character you type is spoken.
Words: no characters are spoken, only words are read out after you press
space and/or punctuation marks.
Characters and words: all characters are spoken, as are words when you
press spacebar and/or punctuation marks.
Nothing: No keyboard echo at all.
To access these option, press VO +V. VO should announce, "adjust typing
echo. Make your selection with the up and down arrows and then press enter
to confirm your selection.
