Is split finger tap the same as placing two fingers on the screen and only lift one of the fingers while the other one is still on the screen and tap with the one you lift?

I went into the settings and landscape was off. I scanned a page of a book and held my phone camera down with the phone in portrait position. It also suggests that instead of the double tap, you use the split finger tap. Place two fingers on the left side of the phone, lift one finger and tap the phone. It should take a picture and begin reading very soon.
