Hi there
I just did a test with Pages to see if I was correct about this. If you open a
file, and you move the cursor somewhere within the file, and you don't close
the window with command w and just command q, your place is kept. Pages keeps
in memory whatever files you have open until you press command w to close the
window. You want to make sure

In my test file, I moved the cursor and then did command q without closing the
window. I reopened Pages, and did command right arrow to see where my cursor
was. It landed on the next word in the file where it would have been if I had
left Pages open. I hope this helps, and this may resolve your issue. Also,
TextEdit should do the same, although I haven't run the test on it yet.
