Yes, but you might want to wait a few seconds before you take it out. Also, I 
always check to make sure that it's off by seeing if it is still on the 
desktop. If you don't do that, sometimes you get an error message. I don't 
know, but I guess the computer is doing something with the drive sometimes 
after the command e is done. 

Just so you know, I used to be able to get a program called Growl to let me 
know when drives were ejected, but I haven't been able to get that thing to 
work lately.
