I’ve inserted a page number in the footer of the first page of my document, and
then proceeded to write many more pages. Looking things over now, I see that
each footer has a page number alright, but they don’t correspond to the actual
page order. For example, page 2 will have “4” in the page field, page 3 will
have “5” etc. Some footers don’t actually have a number, but there is a silent
character, like a placeholder, where the number would be.
Are these erroneous numbers just placeholders that will be updated to
accurately reflect the page order once the doc is printed?
I’d experiment for the answer myself, but I don’t feel like printing out a
dozen pages just to find out that the page numbers are screwed up.
