In numbers, I sort table rows/columns by the following method. I don’t know if
this will work the same with a selection, but it might. A little
experimentation will tell the tale.

for sorting tables by row or column.
1, position VO anywhere in the table and press VO Shift Vertical bar (the key
above the return key).
2, Press VO down or up arrow to select whether to work in rows or columns.
3, VO right or left to select the desired column heading, or up and down to
select the desired row heading, and press VO space to select it.

for example, if you wanted to sort by column C, you would arrow down to Column
headers after pressing VO shift vertical bar, then arrow right or left until
you get to Column C and then press VO space to make it the selected column.

4, bring up the context menu with VO shift M.
5, arrow down through the menu and select the desired sort option.
6, exit the headers and return to the normal table mode by pressing VO shift
vertical bar again.

This procedure sorts the entire table by either rows or columns. To sort a
subset of rows/columns in a table, you would first select the rows/columns to
be sorted, and then go into the sort/filter inspector. in there you would add
the row or column you wish to sort by by pressing the “add” button, and then
you can set sort options in the scroll area before actually doing the sort by
pressing the “sort now” button.

I just messed around with this a little and I don’t believe you can sort just a
selection of data in a table row or column. That is, the entire row or column
will be included in the sort action with the selected field being the sort key.
Hope this all makes sense.
