Actually, I solved it; thanks! I had googled it but the solutions looked awfully complicated me. So first I tried stopping the process, turning off iTunes match, and quitting iTunes, then re-opening iTunes and turning on iTunes match. This time it still stalled in step 2, about nine songs sooner. So I again stopped the process, turned off iTunes match, quit iTunes and shut down my computer. Then I started the computer again and opened iTunes and started match again. This time it finished step 2 and I think it is now in the process of uploading artwork and remaining songs if I understand what is happening. Apparently this can sometimes be a problem with Apple but also can be something that has to be solved with somehow backing up and removing certain songs and I wanted to avoid having to figure that out. So far it appears I have gotten it going again without having to do anything that drastic.
-- Cheryl I tried and tried to turn over a new leaf. I got crumpled wads of tear-stained paper thrown in the trash! Then God gave me a new heart and life: His joy for my despairing tears! And now, every day: "This I call to mind, and therefore I have hope: The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness." Even when you have all the songs imported I sometimes get iTunes Match freezing an d get a message eventually that iTunes is unable to contact the store. I do not know why this happens but suspect a capacity problem on the Apple end. Generally I have to restart iTunes to clear the problem. You should not lose what you have already imported.
