Hello,
FileVault locks your Hard Drive. When you set it up, you need to decide if you
want to use your iCloud info to unlock it, or use the automatically generated
recovery key. This key is necessary if you ever need to unlock your drive and
you’ve forgotten your credentials for opening the drive. You can also choose to
let your Apple ID provide you with the unlock code. If you do this, you need to
answer several questions that are stored within Apple.
Remember that if you do choose to use FileVault and you have misplaced or
forgotten any info for unlocking the drive, if you didn’t use either your
iCloud info or your apple id you will not be able to get back into the drive.
I suppose that if you have any doubts, you probably shouldn’t use FileVault.
JMO.
