Hello, I have attempted to use File Vault in the past, but in one case I had a unique situation that proved highly problematic. I essentially was unencrypting my HD because I needed to reformat my machine, but File Vault failed in the midsts of unencryption. This locked my HD and prevented me from being able to unlock the partition, so it could be erased. During the Mountain Lion days I could go into the terminal access the UUID, and type an erase commend with the UUID that would allow me to erase my HD, but since that OS (correct me if I am wrong), but this is no longer possible. Thus, I would just exercise caution when using file vault, and know that this is one case where file vault failed.
