Try this: Ctrl-Option-M to go to the menu. Move across to the "help" menu, then Ctrl-Option-Down-Arrow to move into the Help menu. One of the menu options should be the check for updates tool, which allows you to enable automatic updating if that's what you would prefer. I immediately made that change.
