When I set up my Mac Mini with Leopard, I set the Airport connection as the Default; however, if you simply plug your Ethernet cable, Leopard should detect it automatically. There is a setting in the Network preference to "connect Automatically". This should automatically connect you, whether you use wireless Internet or your Eithernet card.
