This can be a mystery. I've found two options that help, but no guarantee. The 
first is the o'l sign in and out of Messages on all devices, maybe even restart 
. The second is to have each device sending with the same caller ID. I've found 
that if one device is sending with my phone number, and another is sending with 
my email as the ID, messages may not sync as well.
