That's a system-wide shortcut, one VMWare may not be able to intercept in time. My only solution--and there may be better ones, as I'm not a VMWare user--is to disable it completely.
In System Preferences, choose Keyboard, then the Shortcuts tab. Select the Mission Control category in the first table, and you should find a bunch of control-arrow shortcuts in the second table.
