I have done this in the past, and even after i updated it still worked.  The 
thing is, I run my iTunes library from a network attached storage device.  All 
3 computers can share the library, but not simotanisly.  Meaning, only 1 
computer can connect to the library at a time.  If you are storing the library 
on a computer, home sharing is the way to go.  Also, home sharing is not gone 
after the update, it is still in the file menu.  Just turned it on esterday on 
2 out of my 3 computers.  So I know this works.
