Hi all, so as plenty of you know, I am the proud owner of a lovely Mac Mini
late 2012 model. As many of you also know, this mac also does not do will when
not connected to a monitor. Most people will say, “buy this obscure headless
device.” But I say “My debit card isn’t with Amazon, and I don’t want to lose
yet another device. So, I’ve relied on a Vizio TV for my Mac monitor needs for
years. I’ve used that for years until one thunder storm… Then it never worked
again. So, we spent $30 on a VGA adaptor for an HP monitor I have had for
plenty of years, but I found, too late, that it was programmed to only work
with Windows PC’s, darn you HP. So, I then looked on the app store for some way
to use the mac without a physical monitor, and came across an app called Duet.
This app used the iPhone, plugged into the mac via the lightning cable, to
work. So, I spent the $15 it took to get the app, then downloaded, with
frustration because of the “busy” messages, the driver for the mac. Now, sense
I’m running the captain, I had a little trouble installing the driver. It
installed and restarted the mac, but it hang there. So I turned the computer
off, then back on, it restarted once then came up swinging. Apps launched as
quickly as they should, voiceover works almost as perfectly as if there wash a
monitor attached, and the mac is smooth, well, just about as smooth as if it
did have a monitor attached. It is usable, in any case, and it only costed $15.
Do I wish I had a real monitor? I sure do. Do I love this setup though? Yep.
Just another option for us poor mac Mini users.
