Hi all, Alex, I don’t think the issue you were having is a beta thing. I’ve noticed it as well and I’m not running any beta. It might, however, have something to do with the VoiceOver setting to play tones instead of announcing links. When I’m navigating through a Pages document using the down arrow key, with QuickNav turned off, if a line contains placeholder text only the placeholder text is spoken by VoiceOver, together with the link tone. However, navigating character by character or word by word works fine.
I think your problem with replacing placeholder text is that you’re not selecting the placeholder text. As you’re navigating down, VoiceOver announces the placeholder text but the keyboard cursor is at the beginning of the line or in any case not selecting the placeholder text. So you need to then navigate by word until you get to the placeholder text and then by character to select the placeholder text. You need to hear VoiceOver announce, “placeholder text selected”, and not just hear the tone, because the tone is played both when the placeholder text is selected and unselected. You also might like to consider using AppleScript to complete your template. I’ve just created AppleScripts to complete forms at work, and it works really well. Templates and placeholder text are all part of the iWork scripting edition. So your script can prompt you for the client’s name and number of hours, and can then open a template in Pages, replace the placeholder text, export the document as PDF and email to the client. Best of luck! Nic -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "MacVisionaries" group.
