Shawn,

Yes, you are correct. I’m sorry for my confusion. I am updating OSX on my Mac
Book Pro. I am not doing a thing with the IPhone.

Although I get VO to work, I seem to be stuck at the same point that I cannot
get beyond. When VO first comes up, it says, Logon screen. I do
VO+Right-arrow (quick nav is positively off), and I get a “user” group box that
when I interact with it says my name. Then if I vo+spacebar on my name, the
group box/item seems to close and I keep being prompted for a password. I type
in what I believe my niece helped me change it to this afternoon and am not
sure what I should be doing after that. I’ve tried pressing the enter key
after typing in the password which seems to remove Voice Over and then It
either is still on the same screen or else comes back to that same screen when
I load VO with either Command+F5 or FN+command+F5.

Additionally, when I continue doing VO+RightArrow There is also a “go” button
that I have tried selecting with VO+spacebar and same result as pressing enter
after I type in the password. Other options on the screen are sleep, restart,
and shutdown. This is driving me crazy right now. Does anyone have any
know-how on how I can get beyond this point or what its doing?

I am wondering if something went wrong with the password update and I’ve tried
entering a password one too many times and am now locked out!
Thanks.

Eileen

Hi Eileen. Are you trying to update your iPhone or Mac? If you're trying to
update your Mac, it's simply called OS X. iOS is for iPhones, iPads, and iPod
Touches and they haven't gotten to iOS 10 yet. Also, my best advice to any new
Mac user is that if you ever want to learn the Mac, you have to stop going back
to Windows every time you struggle with something. If you're flustered, take a
break, maybe watch some TV and then when you feel ready, come back and try to
do what you were doing when you first got flustered. It's easy to go back to
the thing you're comfortable with, but if you force yourself to take one step
at a time and learn the Mac, you'll get the hang of it eventually.

Thanks. I’m one of those Windows users who has had a hard time switching
over to the Mac mostly because I’ve always reverted back to my comfort zone –
Windows. With that said, I haven’t given up on the Mac, but its a real
struggle when I go back to trying to do something IOS related.
The laptop appeared to finish one of the updates earlier and was prompting
for a restart. I did get VO running again with Command+F5 and then it went
through the restart. So I walked away for the last hour trying to keep my
hands off while it does what ever updating it needs to go through.

I know IOS updates take a long time, so I’ll go back to check on it now. I
will let you know where I get with it. So long as VO comes back up I think it
will all go smoothly <YIKES>.

  Thanks.

  Hi, Ilene,
When you are doing an installation,
Try pressing the Function+Control+F5. The OS X installer doesn't have the
ability to switch the function keys from the default.
  Hope this makes sense.

    Hi,

I have been needing to update my Mac Book Pro since December/January of
this past year, but needed help with resetting my Administrative password
before I could do the update to Yosemity. My sighted niece was over today and
helped me do the reset, and to make the process easier I unloaded VO with
Command +F5.

There were 2 IOS updates that the MBP had to go through. Apparently, it
did the first of the two. It is currently downloading the second IOS update to
IOS 10.10.5 (I believe that is the correct version).

Anyway, my niece had to leave and I am now waiting on the download to
finish. VO has not come back on.

I have tried re-loading VO by using Command+F5, but it would not come back
on. Should I have used the VO Utility with VO+F8? Does any one know at what
point in this process I will be able to turn Voice Over back on or if it will
come up on its own once the down-load is done?

Sorry to be so dumb about this. Thanks for any help.
