Hello Caitlyn, Question: If I delete the current library, and then use my music folder on an external, how do I keep it from becoming so huge again?
Answer: Before you delete your current Library, I suggest you do a Google search for cleaning up iTunes Library using Smart Playlists. Using a Smart Playlist allowed me to prune my Library a couple of years ago. As for how to keep your Library from becoming so large--well, the simplest answer is to not copy the music into the Library but, rather, simply allow iTunes to point to the music files in their original location. To do this, based on iTunes 12.x for Windows: 1. >From the Edit menu, select Preferences. 2. Select the Advanced Tab. 3. Uncheck Copy Files to Itunes Media Folder when Adding to Library. Question: Also, since I do want to add more music files to the library at times, can I just point the i tunes towards the new library on the external drive, then add the new files to that folder directly, instead of using the automatically add to i tunes folder? Answer: Yes. I can go in and delete duplicates by hand, but I know this will be quite time consuming. If I delete the current library, and then use my music folder on an external, how do I keep it from becoming so huge again? Also, since I do want to add more music files to the library at times, can I just point the i tunes towards the new library on the external drive, then add the new files to that folder directly, instead of using the automatically add to i tunes folder? Hope this isn’t too confusing.. Thanks, Caitlyn -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "MacVisionaries" group.
