Hi All, I am very interested in Apple TV, but am not clear on what it will give me that I might already have. Currently with Verizon FIOS as our provider, we have enabled the Described Video Service option on the TV/set top box. The draw back for us with this is that in order to get description, we had to enable Spanish as the language and we’re not a spanish speaking household. So if programs are on that would normally be in English, we get them broadcast in spanish if/when DVS is not offered. And, Verizon doesn’t give a way that we can change the option without sighted assistance.
So, I’m wondering if we decide to buy an Apple TV, will it give us control over the set-top box/cable settings? And, will it operate as our standard TV remote for changing stations, adjusting volume, and switching between DVD/video player and TV? Also, will it provide any better access to say tv program listings that are visually shown on a certain station? Both of us are totally blind so these are the things that would really make it beneficial if we get one. And, finally, , will it just work with our current Verizon connections or do we have to buy additional service to get it working? I know I’ve asked a lot, but I find it confusing so appreciate any insight you all can offer. Thanks.
