mercy!
I am glad you told them there is an FCC ruling...because they are
violating it if you live in one of the markets covered.
Some cable providers will offer this correctly for hd digital packages,
but not for their standard or non hd digital options, which is not
correct.
There is to be a separate option for dvs on the sap menu, one for
language too so it alone can be activated.
I am thrilled you are already being detailed though.

Karen,
Hehehehaha, I???ve been on the phone with Verizon???s center for customers with
disabilities numerous times regarding getting DVS working. They are the ones
who told me I had to enable Spanish as the language to get DVS to work.
So the deal is this any program that does not have DVS or a Spanish broadcast comes
over in English. If DVS & Spanish are available then DVS is what we get.
However, if there is no DVS and Spanish is available then the broadcast is in
Spanish. Turns out there is a fair amount of programming in Spanish and we???re
paying for stations we can???t watch anymore because its in a language we don???t
speak! Its very frustrating to say the least. I only asked Verizon a week or two
ago when they will have a better option available under the newer FCC rulings, and
they can only tell me they don???t know.

Hi Eileen
granted, this may depend on which state you are based in, but you should
get audio description without the need to lose English at other times.
Have you called Verizon's customer service center for those with
disabilities directly?
There is a toll-free number on their website.
or I have the one for wireless, 1-888-262-1999.
They can transfer you to the main one. be sure to tell them you are
seeking the customer service center for people with disabilities.
They can correct your set box problem, including sending at no charge a
technician to make the corrections.
If this makes no sense write me privately and I will lend a hand.
Apple tv is not likely to address this for you, it works with but not as
your set top box.

Hi All,
I am very interested in Apple TV, but am not clear on what it will give me that
I might already have. Currently with Verizon FIOS as our provider, we have
enabled the Described Video Service option on the TV/set top box. The draw
back for us with this is that in order to get description, we had to enable
Spanish as the language and we????????re not a spanish speaking household. So
if programs are on that would normally be in English, we get them broadcast in
spanish if/when DVS is not offered. And, Verizon doesn????????t give a way
that we can change the option without sighted assistance.
So, I????????m wondering if we decide to buy an Apple TV, will it give us
control over the set-top box/cable settings? And, will it operate as our
standard TV remote for changing stations, adjusting volume, and switching
between DVD/video player and TV?
Also, will it provide any better access to say tv program listings that are
visually shown on a certain station? Both of us are totally blind so these are
the things that would really make it beneficial if we get one.
And, finally, , will it just work with our current Verizon connections or do we
have to buy additional service to get it working?
I know I????????ve asked a lot, but I find it confusing so appreciate any
insight you all can offer.
Thanks.
Eileen
