Vaughn, I’m not sure this is true. While it’s probably true that the artist
makes less they also get to keep more of the take per sale than they would have
with a label. Remember, Apple for example if memory servers gives you 70 cents
on the dollar where you might only get 10 or 20 with a regular record deal.
Another thing I know first hand is artists are making more money in the
performance space now than ever. My family has a business that supports all
the shows for the casinos and venus in the North East and there’s more work
than ever. Casinos especially up here have large venus now and have big name
shows come through. The money being made performing is huge.
If you’re unsure, ask Adele who moved 2.5 million full albums on iTunes in one
weekend.:)
Interesting topic though. The music industry has changed much like others
have, technology has that effect.
