Is this a 16GB RAM kit with 2 8GB sticks?
Or are you mixing OEM and aftermarket RAM?
I (for a short time) had a 2010 MacBook Pro that I was going to provision for 
the person that got the 2012 machine, and it refused to boot with 16GB, but 
worked with one OEM stick and one aftermarket one.
2012 accepted both without issue.
Be sure the RAM you bought is listed compatible with the machine.
Crucial has a compatibility checker, you can call their support number and they 
can verify compatibility.
