Bill,
After much trial and error, I finally succeeded in getting the 16gigs to be recognized.

Is this a 16GB RAM kit with 2 8GB sticks?
Or are you mixing OEM and aftermarket RAM?
I (for a short time) had a 2010 MacBook Pro that I was going to provision for the person that got the 2012 machine, and it refused to boot with 16GB, but worked with one OEM stick and one aftermarket one.
2012 accepted both without issue.
Be sure the RAM you bought is listed compatible with the machine.
Crucial has a compatibility checker, you can call their support number and they can verify compatibility.

Hi Bill,
Far as I can tell, I have the correct ram for the Mac. Crucial had me install one module at a time in the upper slot. Both work individually. Install both and the Mac will not boot.

I’ve upgraded a 13-inch MacBOok Pro 2012 from 4GB to 16GB of RAM.
I’ve also installed a 128GB SSD in that system.
Make sure you are using mac RAM, be sure the DYMM order is correct (can’t remember it, I upgraded that system around this time last year), and be sure the RAM speeds match official specifications.

I have a Macbook Pro mid 2012. Apple shows this model as having 4gigs of memory and upgradeable to 8.

Yet Crucial shows this same model as unofficially supporting 16gigs.

Have any of you with this model been able to upgrade to 16gigs?
