Good point about the cord to the Superdrive being very short length. I just
looked at mine, and man! You're not kidding!

Mostly. The MacBook Air SuperDrive can negotiate to get more power from the
Air over the USB cable, with the result that it’s generally more reliable at
booting. However, you can get around this by using drives that can either
be externally powered or have multiple USB input leads (“Netbook” drives) to
gain the extra power. This is usually only necessary when the Air is
booting from the drive. I’d recommend the MBA SuperDrive just for this
reason, but the price difference and the fact that it has such an absurdly
short cable mean that you should probably look for pretty much any other
first if you don’t need booting. I am a big fan of Lite-On drives, if you
can still get them.
