I’ve noticed that too; in my oppinion, for the money you put into them, they’re 
really poorly made.  I love their ruggedness, but can’t stand the fact that you 
can’t use the clip they come with without it tearing the casing to shreds.
  I’ve had 3 of them, and it either chipped the metal part of the casing, or 
shredded the rubber around the outside, or both.  When it came to the first one 
I got, repeated use of the clip ground the metal on one side to the point that 
when I put it into the clip one afternoon, I heard this sound like sand moving 
around under someone’s shoes, so I took it out, and and part of the side of it 
looked like someone who’d had a cavity, or something weird like that.
