I did indeed receive your message, but it seemed to indicate that I would have
to wire the adapter myself. I don't think I could do this. Trouble with
getting a monitor is that none of the ones I've seen have the correct end that
would fit into the adapter that came with my Mac Mini. I'll keep looking.

Did you get the message I sent you? My husband called tech support for you
regarding a dummy adapter. I don't know if it is the one you have. You could
get a very small used monitor for about $50 that wouldn't take up much room,
but would fix this issue.

The DVI adaptor is not the right one. That one still passes through the monitor
detect signaling so it just moves the problem further down the chain of
connections. For those not familiar, without a monitor connected the Mac tries
to detect what's hooked up. This detection apparently hangs the machine, makes
it run horribly slow or other bad behaviors if there isn't a monitor hooked up.
If you hook up an NTSC adaptor the detect runs as though a screen is hooked up
and then everything works.

Well I had exactly the same problem last week.
My only recommendation is to buy a cheap monitor just for the mini which is
what I did.
Of course you can also do what I did and buy yourself an early Christmas
present (an imac).
