Interesting, I hadn't heard about this. I just tried it on two different Airports, the older mini-pizza shaped one allowed me to do the SNMP trick but the newer small tower shaped one did not. I wonder why it was taken out? Maybe another attack vector for bad guys?

Alas, the newest base stations (AC Extreme, Time Capsule) no longer support

has SNMP, you’ll have to toggle it back on and configure the community strings
using the older utility.

And yeah, it sucks a pair of fetid dingo’s kidneys. :(

AirPort make great—no, fantastic--base stations, still. But if your needs go
beyond the basics on a simple IP routed NAT network (even PPPoE is dodgy
nowadays), don’t be afraid to get or build a more advanced router platform for
yourself, that supports the desired comforts for you. Mine is a Mac Mini,
running Linux. It has a five-disk enclosure attached to it, and an external
NIC. It is therefore the gateway and NAS of my dreams (limited, of course, by
Apple’s walled garden; see Jonathan Mosen’s Blog for more on that).
