This is basically a transformer. Those little wall warts you use power
up low voltage devices like radios, phones, CD players usually run on
just a few volts (5 to 12), just like batteries. The power coming out of
your outlet is usually 120 volts (US) or 220 (Europe). Years ago
somebody figured out that you could have a chunk of steel shaped like a
square doughnut. You could then wind wire around the left side of of the
square and another around the right side of the square. The ratio of
turns of wire would change the voltage appearing on one side or the
other. So a transformer with 200 turns on the left (the primary) and 20
turns on the right (the secondary) would drop the voltage by about 90%
making your 120 volt input become a 12 volt output (a step-down
transformer). Of course the things are highly inefficient and turned a
good bit of the power into heat, but it works. Another downside is
moving the two coils away from each other drastically reduces how much
you get out of the secondary. Sooo, this is a long way of saying the
phone charging mats and such are basically setting up your phone as the
secondary on a standard transformer. What they've struggled with is to
make it efficient, light weight and functional with wide separation
between the primary and secondary, all things that normal transformers
are not. Coming up with an agreed upon standard has also been long in
coming. I'm sure they also had to overcome all that magnetic razzle
dazzle causing the phone electronics to misbehave.

Wireless charging is a system where you beam the electricity through the air to
the device to charge it. Basically, I think it uses the principles of
inductance to transfer the electricity to the battery. You generally have a
matt or area that you set your phone in and it charges while resting. Coffee
shops have this options available in many places.

Ok, think I’m a little out of the loop here, what is wireless charging?

The Rumored WirelessCharging may OffSet the LackOf a HeadphoneJack
Finally Apple will have WirelessCharging on their MobilePhones (iPhones)

Personally, I don’t think the headphone jack will come back ever again. It
will take some getting used too, but, I understand why it is being done. The
more important thing to me is that the new iPhone hopefully, will be water
proofed or, at least a lot more water resistant.

Will People SitBack & wait for Apple to ReIntroduce the HeadPhoneJack in another iPhone
InTheFuture quite possibly the iPhone8 (because the iPhone7S & iPhone7S+ &
iPhone7PRO will likely be the SameDesign as the 7)

Redmond Pie is reporting that a leaked iPhone 7 schematic appeared in a

also called the Pro will include dual cameras for stereoscopic vision, no head
phone jack and a smart connector on the back. Also appears to have a touch
sensitive home button and a similar size to the iPhone 6s+.
