I was under the impression that the Apple Watch uses Bluetooth, not wifi.

Subject: Apple Watch on Wifi.
Hi!
Not sure whats going on here but from what i understand its possible to use
apple watch on wifi together with the Iphone?
When i turn Bluetooth off my apple watch seem to not be connected to my
Iphone.
At least it tells me so.
So i did a ping for the Iphone but it didn’t seem to help.
This is with the Iphone SE and a 42 mm apple watch stainless steel.
Both devices uses the most up to date version.
Any thoughts
