Hi Helga, Your friend would want to boot into recovery mode. Just hold down command+r on boot-up. I usually hold it down, wait until you hear the boot tone, and then count to like 30 before releasing the keys. After that wait like 2 minutes and then hit command+f5 to get VO up. You'll find yourself in a table one of which is disc utility. Select disc utility, select your macintosh hd and click on erase. Make sure the options are HFS+ journaled and hit erase. After that close disc utility which will bring you back to the table of options. Next select reinstall mac OSX. And you'll be all set Hope this helps! Jeff
