Friend is more concerned about ransomware and the like. I don't know
if Macs are bothered by this.

security would be total physical disconnection. If ejected, there are terminal
commands that a user can implement that will re-mount that drive if still

likely have that knowledge, or access to it. Now, knowing all this, it's not
particularly easy to let someone gain access to your machine in that manner
