Hi Mark,

No it can be done by using the terminal which is found under your utilities
menu from the installation utilities

Have a look at the following URL and it may explain things better than I have.

Hope this helps.

Hello Simon, E.T., et al,

Where is one supposed to change the date. This is to say, can the date be
changed from within the install interface or must one do it while logged into a
full OS session.

I am re-downloading El Capitan but was just curious for I did not see anywhere
from within the install interface through which one may change system
parameters. The only thing I saw was Terminal.

Again, just curious.

Mark

Hi Mark,

I'm not sure how they do it but I don’t believe the machine has to be
connected to the net.

I know the one I had this issue on wasn't, I had it happen on my own mac book
air when I blew it away to reinstall.

And on a 24 inch iMac at work that I reimaged and that was using an installer
that was downloaded from Apple a month previously.

You can do the change of time / date and then install and update and then
reset your time // date back to the correct settings and it will fix the
install cert issue, problem then is you only have to re create your installer
USB.

If you are not already aware,
When you go to update the os on your machine if you download the installer from
apple via the updates and then cancel the installation before it starts, you
will then have the "install OSX el capitan" installer in your applications
folder, You can then create your usb installation media again,
I normally set this up with the current and 2 earlier os installer versions on
a USB that way I've got the older installers if I need them.
And a fully installed os on the USB as well to allow for other diagnostics.

Hope this helps.

Hello Simon,

This is extremely helpful.

I will re-download the image and re-create the media.

Question, when I launched the installer, was it connected to the net via WiFi?
I ask this because I was thinking that it was not, at least, not until I
attached the Ethernet cable. But now that I think about it, the WiFi could
have been active.

I wonder what would have happened if I had simply powered down my router before
launching the installer.

Hmm! Interesting.

Regardless, I will re-image the USB key.

Thank you.

Mark

Hi Mark,

Question is when did you create that USB installation media?

Apple have twice in the past 7 months that I can think of,

Re done their certificates for their installation media

Meaning that your installation media is like mine was earlier this year and
that is somewhat out of date now.

I've had this happen to me also a few months ago and I had 2 options to get
around the problem.

The first and longer to setup option is on another machine download the
installation media from apple and recreate your Installer USB device.

The second is possibly shorter but could be more of an issue if your not
carefull.

That is to set the time and date on your mac back to when you created the usb
device and then try again to install from your current USB device.

This works according to one of my work colleagues who is a mac specialists
Once the os is installed, you reset the time to the correct time /date and then
you should be fine to carry on what you need to do, including downloading a new
installer image nd then create your OSX Installation USB.

 Hope that helps.

Subject: A Question About Installing El Capitan from a USB Key, I tried and
Failed

Hello Everyone,

The long and short of it is that for the past 3 releases of OS X, I have made
USB key installs so, in case of a catastrophe, I could simply insert the USB
key, launch the install and get back up and running without having to be
connected to the internet.

Tonight, I decided to perform a fresh install of El Capitan on my 2009 MacBook
Pro.

Before I began, I completely wiped the internal drive of all its partitions
but, when I tried to install from the USB key, I kept getting an alert that the
copy of El Capitan could not be verified and the only option I was given was to
click the OK button, upon so doing, simply took me back to the beginning/start
screen.

After going through this several times, I attached an Ethernet cable, thinking
that this would allow the copy to be verified but, no, I kept receiving the
same alert.

Finally, I gave up and used the Yosemite USB key which did not give me any
trouble, whatsoever.

Any thoughts on this?

By the way, before I began, I tested El Capitan on this particular computer by
running a cloned copy of it from one of my USB Thunderbolt drives.

I would hate to think that my El Capitan USB key is useless.

All comments, greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

Mark
