Hi,
Either use the mute key which should be the F10 key on the function key row of
your keyboard,

Or on your touch pad do a three finguer double tap such as you’d do on your
iPhone or iPad.

Subject: Re: Update on my issueRe: Urgent Help! Voiceover on my Mac got muted!!!

Hi. I don't have a trackpad but what is the key combination to turn voice-over
mute on and off?

For what it’s worth, I experience this occasionally as well. It always occurs
after I wake the computer from sleep, and I find that VoiceOver is running, but
muted. I am not sure what causes this problem but it is especially difficult to
work around. To help, I’ve assigned the “mute VoiceOver” command to a hotkey
using the VoiceOver keyboard commander preferences. At least this gives another
option if the trackpad gesture doesn’t work. It will not work if you are at the
lock screen in the password field, and the command to toggle VoiceOver won’t
work on the lock screen at all. Hearing the error tone when you press
COMMAND-F5 actually gives you one of the few indications that are available at
this point, which is that you are likely in the lock screen meaning you need to
get passed it before trying too much else. Once you are passed the lock screen,
using the commands to toggle VoiceOver and toggle mute are sometimes effective,
but not always. Sometimes if there are no apps that need your attention, you
can at least cleanly reboot the system by, say, pressing the POWER button for a
few seconds to bring up the shut down dialog, then pressing r for restart.

I am not sure why this occurs, and it may be that it only occurs on some Macs
but not others. Would love to hear from others on this.

Hi All!!How are you again? I just want to give you an update on my issue. I
did manage to fix it!!! I did it this way guys! I ask my mom to turn off my
computer since I press the power button, and she did it with the mouse. So when
I turn on my computer I was able to type my user name and password and then I
double tap on the go button. then Voiceover said Welcome to OS10, and after
that VO said speech off,and I tried for half and hour or perhaps more, before
even my mom turn off my computer to turn on speech on by doing a triple finger
double tap on my trackpad, and I could not find the right place to make it work
on the trackpad and I knew I was doing correctly the gesture! However, I went
to a corner or somewhere in the trackpad and I tried to perform again the
three fingers double tap and it finally work! Thanks so much guys for give ing
me some suggestions! I look forward in hearing from yu soon. Thanks and God
bless!

Hi,

For the three-finger double-tap, you may need to make sure that the Trackpad
Commander is on. Hold down the VO keys, then do a two-finger twist to the
right, sort of like turning up a volume knob. After ensuring that the Trackpad
Commander is on, try the three-finger double-tap, then turn up the volume by
pressing F12 a number of times. You may need to also try these steps another
time if VoiceOver has somehow been turned off during all your attempts. So,
try the instructions once, then if nothing improves, press cmd-f5 and try them
again.

Later...
