A good antenna shouldn't cost that much but a lot of it also depends on
where you put it. I put a ChannelMaster CM2016 in my attic and it worked
quite well. Cost me $44 on Amazon. My wife is a sports nut so she had to
have her (US) football and Olympics.

I had tried other amplified and gimicky things from Best Buy and they
never worked very well.

Have you tried a good antenna or just the included rabbit ears or
a cheap wall mount version?
I got ahold of a bowtie antenna for something like 25 bucks and
the difference was significant. Digital signals are also easier
to pick up, it’s either working or not. Digital is great it’s
either saturated or off, much simpler to deal with than analog
signals.
