Interesting that the PBS 4th celebration show did not air the fireworks live.

And yes Independence Day with Will Smith is super, including the alien ships. (smiles)

So, first, PBS, is the public broadcasting system. This is a class of
broadcaster that receives government funding as well as funding from
private donations. Think about the BBC but with a smaller government
contribution, no license fees and they get to beg for money relentlessly
over the top of programming every 3 months or so. However, they do have
some legendary products like Nova for the science types, this old house
for the do it yourselfers, good ol sesame street and Mr Rogers or
Barney for the kids and amazing cooking shows starting with the greatest
ever, Julia Child. A lot of history from that organization. They have
also made large technical contributions. The Engineer of WGBH in Boston
is world renown and I know PBS has made contributions to HDTV technology
for example as well as studied a great deal on signal propagation. I
also think WGBH and PBS in general were very instrumental in described
video for the blind community. What started out as a SAP channel on PBS
is now available in movie houses and all sorts of content which is a
good thing.

The coverage being spoken of on the Apple TV was the 4th of July
celebration in Boston at the Band Shell. The Boston Pops are famous
with directors / composers scoring the biggest films of all time
including of course Star Wars.

Since you asked but not to get to far off topic, July 4th is very
important in our country. IT’s when we wrote and published the
declaration of independence from the crown and King George the iii and
our revolution really began. Thomas Jefferson wrote that our
independence should be celebrated with fireworks or illuminations and
cannon fire. I did my part.:) There are many heavy handed regulations
against fireworks, especially in North Eastern states but most people
ignore the man and set them off anyway. We close the gates in our
community and refuse entry to the storm troopers (police) and fire
stooge (fire martial) and other neighborhoods have lookouts or listen to
scanners and hide the fireworks when the heat arrives.:) In southern
states there are no such limitations and the 4th of july is a fantastic
event with fireworks night after night for at least a week before and
after the 4th. Lots of bbq, military parades, veterans groupsand such.
Also charities raise a lot of money during this time. I missed the 4th
this year in the south by 2 weeks, I’ll be moved to Florida by the end
of the month but missed the 4th this year. Luckily the spirit is alive
up here regardless of what the stuffed shirts in Boston or Hartford tell us.

And yes, independence day the movie is a good indicator of what happens
if you don’t set your WiFi Password. As a side note, Jeff Gold-bloom’s
computer in the first one was a Mac. The second movie in Imax was good
but had equally big story holes you could drive a truck through.

Sorry folks, but I have to ask this,

Chris what is a PBS?

I know you americans go crazy on july 4^th but really why?

I thought the aliens just came back to get you a second time?

Doesn’t Geoff Goldblume have to save you again with his super super
fast power book and a simple virus inserted in to the aliens space
craft computer system?!!!!

Oh and on their alien ships wifi network that can’t have been secured
as they didn’t appear to put in the wifi password….

Just saying that if that’s all it takes,

Lol….

*Importance:* High

At the top of the hour, 8:00PM Eastern, PBS is doing their yearly 4th
of July celebration.

Does anyone know if I can watch if live with my Apple TV 4th gen?
Yes, I do have the PBS app installed. I just can't recall if the app
let's you watch the network live, or not.

If not, I'll just watch with my Time Warner, although it would be very
very nice to watch in my studio on my 5.1 surround sound.

Chris.
