I have no direct knowledge of this file type either, but sometimes multiple vendors use the same file extension. If you are at all comfortable with the terminal do the following:
1. Copy the file in the finder. 2. open terminal. 3. type the word file and a space and then paste what you copied in the previous step. At this point one of two things will happen: 1. Your Macintosh might say you need the terminal programming tools or some close equivalent and ask you to download them. 2. it will just give you a summary of the file based on the first few lines. The file command is used on all unix type commands it looks at the file extension and the first few lines of the file and compares them with a "magic" file to guess what type of file it is.
