Thanks for all your comments.

I did finally get Sonos working properly on my iPod. I think the problem is 
that I just wasn't giving it enough time to connect.  My iPod is the previous 
Generation, so it's pretty slow, which is why I initially set Sonos up on my 
phone.

anyway, all working well now.  Thanks for taking the time to respond.
