I wonder now with this two factor stuff on iOS, how would one upgrade to a
new phone since it appears that you need both the old and new active with
cellular connectivity to do it? My lease is coming up in November, and I
plan on upgrading, but I don't want to end up locking myself out of my Apple
ID for good doing it.

You know, I think so. So I changed my security questions, and now, when I
enter the answers, I get a "critical server error" message saying my
request cannot be completed at this time.
