Most modern Macs have Thunderbolt not firewire and you can get a firewire to
ethernet dongle too. I believe these cost about $45, so you need to look at
what you are using the network for to determine if the additional bandwidth
provided by a more expensive cable will actually give you better throughput.
Also, at least the TB to ethernet my office provided me can not be chained to
other TB devices. So if you have an AIR and a external display then you might
be having to choose between ethernet and display. How do FW, TB and USB perform
if there are multiple items with different bandwidths on the bus? I seem to
remember that USB is only as fast as the slowest device in the chain.
