Hi Sharon, great questions.
The lightning connector has been on the iPhone now for several generations.
This is the small connector that can be attached in either direction and
provides power or a data connection to the phone. On the 6 and 6S it’s the
connector next to the 3.5 jack.
An adapter is included in the box with the phone that has this small
connector on one side and a 3.5 inch jack on the other both attached with a
small length of wire. You could use a regular 3.5 inch cable to teach to your
hearing system.
Another option is a set of headphones is included. These feel just
like the existing pods they include with the previous versions with the
lightning small connector on the plug end instead of the 3.5 jack. In all
other ways though the headphones feel and appear the same.
As for the sound quality, that’s a subjective thing but I personally
like the sound of the lightning connected products a lot more. The sound clips
less, you can get a louder signal and with the adapter I can even power a pair
of high end AKG reference headphones that normally the iPhone didn’t have
enough go juice to power but in the new design it works great even with out a
headphone amplifier.
Bluetooth is another connection method, it’s very good on the iPhone 7/7+ but
it is entirely wireless and is the standard you’re used to. The lightning
connected products work very very well though.
Hope that helps.
