Jessica, the thing is the Apple routers were good but they aren’t great and for the money they should be great. The part of them that is great is the access point side. They have held up well on the wireless side but I haven’t used their routing functions for years now. They don’t have the forwarding rate to support the modern high end connections, they don’t have the advanced routing features and while they can add a drive for time machine I can do that for a fraction of the price with most routers today or with network attached storage like the Seagate MyCloud boxes. They just aren’t a compelling product any more. They could continue innovating and updating the router but why? Cisco, Dlink, TPLink, Netgear, Buffalo, and on and on are all doing this better and cheaper along with the fact most network providers include a router with their service now. I agree with Eric, it just ain’t worth the scratch Apple wants you to spend. Put the engineers and development effort in to better WiFi clients in the laptops and phones etc and let the router guys do what they do.
