Just my two centts worth, I'm sure this wasn't a snap decision. I don't
think apple makes many of those no matter who the CEO is.
Apple routers aren't just expensive, they're out of site expensive. The
hardware is nice, but nothing you can't get in a router for 1/3 of the
price. Similarly, hard drives capable of time machine can be had for a
fraction of the price of the extreme.
In terms of software, you are OK as long as you only want to set up apple
devices. You're in trouble if you need to set up airport using windows for
any reason, or if you want to connect non bonjour printers or other
unsupported perripherals. Non-proprietary, standards capable routers from
linksys, d-link, and TP-Link do a much more universally accessible, less
proprietary job for between 30 and 50 bucks a shot.
I loved my mac and my IPod, but I'm not such an apple fanboy that I'm
willing to waste money. Some of apple's stuff is just not worth it. The
usb super-multi drive is one such, also the bluetooth keyboard, and the
routers.
Best,
Erik

I wonder why they suddenly decided to do that. I thought those were one of
their biggest sellers.

Well I'm really sorry to see it happen. I was hoping for new Apple routers.
I know they charge more than some others. But setting up one of those on a
Mac was a total piece of cake. I'm all about pieces of cake when it comes
to setting up routers.
