It used to be the case with my AT&T service (that the Contact needed to 
identify “iPhone” rather than simply “Mobile”), but I’ve noticed over the past 
year or so the system seems to identify iPhone addressees whether or not I’ve 
identified their mobile phone as an iPhone or not.  I’m certain this is only 
the case if messaging to another AT&T iPhone customer.  Just thought this may 
prove useful.
