Hi, I find that the ink jet are much cheaper out of the box, but they'll kill you with ink costs. the laser printers may cost more to start with, but with how many pages you can get out of the toners, it's well worth it to me. I went with the Lexmark CX410, but just about any known manufacturer that puts out the laser printer has good quality stuff nowadays. Most have a web interface for set up and configuration, so usable by VO users quite well.
