Here's a link to the Ambiance App at the iTunes Store:
• Ambiance by Urban Apps ($0.99)
http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/ambiance/id285538312?mt=8

This app is in Holly's list of accessible apps at the Mac-cessibility
site, but I found out about this because someone recommended it to
me. Your question made me look up the app's web site, where an
embedded movie will play that gives a description of the app and some
of its features. I recognized a few of the sounds. There was a faint
section with "Large Wind Chimes" in the background, and then, at the
end where they demonstrated that you can mix sounds that was a mixture
of the "Loons" and one of the rain sounds -- maybe "Rain - Leaves".
The demo of setting up the app's alarm feature to play sounds was
pretty good. You get to this menu by double tapping the "More" button
(the 5th button at the bottom of the screen in the bottom right
corner), then select "Alarm" from the list and double tap. There's a
really large range of sounds, and although you can search for them by
topic or keywords, this is somewhat daunting when you first get the
app. For example, if you simply type in "rain" in the search field,
you get a really long list of various rain sounds that you can play.
Also, the sound library is not simply relaxing sounds, but collects
sounds from all sorts of places. So some of the featured sounds could
be the sounds of Christmas shoppers in a market in Germany, or a
subway train arriving, or a Shinto temple drum being beaten, or a
Zamboni machine for resurfacing an ice skating rink being operated.
If you have this app for a while, you'll get a sense of the kind of
sound samples that show up in the new and features sounds every week.
A lot of them won't be what you expect. For example, mixed in with
the new sounds this week is "Blizzard" (which really sounds like white
noise) and "Warfare" (which is a sample of guns fired) and "Traffic in
slush". Many of the sounds you'll just have to try playing through in
Preview to decide whether you like them. You can sample the new
weekly alerts or just search and find sounds of the sort you want.

Hope this gives you a flavor of the app. The Ambiance home page with
the intro movie is at:

Cheers,

Esther
