Hi Jonathan, Thanks for this, very usefull,
I’ll have to give this a go on one of the machines at work Cheers, Simon F From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Jonathan Cohn Sent: Monday, 17 April 2017 1:41 AM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: Setting up hot keys for menu items was:Shopping on Amazon using Safari on Mac OS I am always hoping to find somebody asking questions about automations on this list to answer. In the case of turning off AppleScript, since this is in the menu system, it is quite easy to set up a hot key for it. For Apple Applications that use the standard libraries, any item in any menu can have a hot key associated with it. The process is to open the Shortcuts area of system preferences, since we are talking automation here, I'll start with Siri. Click your Siri shortcut key and say "open keyboard preferences" to Siri. This should open system preferences and land you on the keyboard pane . There are 5 tabs in this pane. Keyboard,, text, shortcuts, input sources and dictation.. You can use the text area to put in abbreviations that will get automatically expanded on both your iPhone and Macintosh, for example bwjc could be expanded to "Best Wishes,Jonathan" Here we will concentrate on the shortcuts tab though, so click on this. In the shortcuts area though there are two tables. One for different areas of the computer and one for specific actions. Click on the last item in the first table "App Shortcuts". Now click the add button. This will bring up a dialog to add a new keyboard shortcut. First you pick an application (very long list), then you type in the exact wording of a menu item for example. ""Synchronize All Accounts" " I usually have use the VO feature "copy last phrase to the clipboard vo-shift-C to get the spelling and case right". Click tab once more and you will be prompted for a shortcut click any combination of keys and they will be used to create a shortcut. Clicking tab twice will get you to the OK button. You can review your Application shortcuts in the second table, I have very few of them, in Skype I set F10 to hang up. I know these are probably things I should be knowing but The world of MacOS & OSX are still pretty new to me. And where can I obtain how to documentation on how these things are done?I’m not into scripting so any assistance is appreciated. However, when you visit other sites you might experience safari busy. It’s a pain disabling and enabling.
