Huh.  How do you select a specific speaker.  I have not seen a way to do that.

But I think you hit the nail on the head in terms of what may have caused my 
problem.  In the past, I've unpaired the stereo pairing, and then taken the 
speaker outside.  Last night, we decided to go outside at the last minute, so I 
just grabbed the speaker on my way out the back door.  I'm betting that's where 
the problems started.
