Well, I guess Alexis smarts are in the eye of the beholder. I find Alexa off and telling me she doesn't know can't say at Cetera. Really as bad or worse than Siri, and at least with Siri, I get dictation on my phone. You are correct that if you know the name of the skill, and it doesn't require linking account, you can just enable it via your echo or other device. The problem is when you don't know the skill and you want to know it. I find searching for skills to be a frustrating time consuming experience and if Alexa we're all that smart, she would be able to look in her own database of skills and give me listings of skills that pertain to whatever keyword I came up with. That would be a really smart assistant, not something that relies on a separate app that is kind of a pain. Just my two cents. Even with Amazon shopping, she often doesn't get it right, even if it's something I have purchased before. When she gets it right, it's great. But quite often, I need to go and use either Safari or the Amazon app. That kind of inconsistency as well as overreliance on the app is what turns me off about Alexa. She's great for setting timers though.
