I spoke to a person at Vodafone NZ today about this and VF NZ have made the 
statement that they are going to upgrade to 5G rather than worry about other 
things in the mobile ranges.

 I asked what will work with 5G,
 Answer probably the iphone 8 and the galaxy S8 devices and Note 8 which is 
released to markets aug 23 

 Another NZ mobile provider has just put LTE-U in to production around 
Queenstown a small south island town surrounded by lakes and mountains

Apple is weird, it all depends on when spectrum or features are added whether 
they are supported or not.  I would think LTE-U had enough lead time for this 
years phones but you never know.  The 600 MHZ auctions are another thing.  
Whether the new iPhone will support the new 600 MHz band is still an open 
question.
